Pato O’Ward won both races of the Milwaukee Mile doubleheader on August 30, completing one of IndyCar’s toughest modern assignments in a single day for Arrow McLaren. The Mexican driver left Milwaukee with three victories in 2026 and fourth place in the standings on 503 points.
A rare feat in any era
Two wins on the same date require a different comparison than career totals. Within hours, O’Ward completed two full races at the same one-mile oval, each with its own start and strategy cycle.
He reached the finale with 17 starts, 10 top-five finishes and 238 laps led. O’Ward sat two points behind Kyle Kirkwood and four behind Christian Lundgaard. Champion Alex Palou, meanwhile, held a 100-point advantage over Lundgaard.
How O’Ward’s sweep fits history
Same-day championship victories are scarce because IndyCar schedules have typically included one points race per event. Doubleheaders provide the chance, but a driver and team must still beat the field twice as track conditions change.
That format distinguishes O’Ward’s Milwaukee result from a traditional weekend sweep of pole and victory, as well as domination of one long race. He earned two official wins. After taking one victory in the first 15 races of 2026, he had three through 17.
Arrow McLaren delivers twice
Arrow McLaren converted two races into two victories on August 30. Pit execution and car preparation were tested again between the contests, without the usual week to reset.
The sweep also supplied Chevrolet with a late response in a season where Honda secured the 2026 manufacturers’ championship at Milwaukee. O’Ward led the Bowtie effort that day, while Palou’s title had already put Chip Ganassi Racing atop the driver competition.

Milwaukee strengthens his standing as one of this era’s leading event performers. Winning twice at the same oval on the same date tested his adaptability and physical endurance, while demanding repeatable execution beyond what one trophy records.
Laguna Seca offers the next comparison
O’Ward takes a three-race winning streak into the Mission Foods Grand Prix of Monterey on September 6 at 2:30 p. m. ET. Palou won from pole at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in each of the last two years and led opening practice as O’Ward began pursuing a fourth straight victory.
