MotoGP Misano pole goes to record-breaking Bezzecchi

Marco Bezzecchi set Misano’s first sub-90-second lap to lead Marc Márquez, while championship leader Jorge Martín qualified fifth.

Marco Bezzecchi became the first rider to break Misano’s 90-second barrier on Saturday, September 12, claiming San Marino Grand Prix pole with a record 1:29.982 lap. Marc Márquez fell 0.060 seconds short, while Fermin Aldeguer advanced from Q1 to complete the front row.

Bezzecchi converts Friday pace into pole

Bezzecchi went into qualifying after topping Friday practice ahead of Marc Márquez and Alex Márquez. The Italian then recorded Misano’s first 1:29 lap to secure the best starting position for the races.

Marc Márquez had led FP1, beating Bezzecchi by the same 0.060-second margin that split the pair in qualifying. The order flipped in the fight for pole.

Martín lines up on the second row

Jorge Martín qualified fifth at Misano, where he arrived with a 19-point championship lead over Marc Márquez. Just 24 points separated the top three in the standings entering the weekend.

Martín has an unexpected pair alongside him on the second row. Aldeguer starts third after making it through Q1, while Luca Marini placed the leading Honda sixth.

Acosta rebounds from Turn 1 crash

Pedro Acosta will start seventh after crashing at Turn 1 during FP1, returning to finish the session sixth and then qualifying on the third row.

Franco Morbidelli secured eighth for Pertamina Enduro VR46. Alex Márquez followed in ninth, Raúl Fernández qualified 10th and Johann Zarco took 11th.

Espargaró secures final Q2 spot

Pol Espargaró took 12th while once again replacing Maverick Viñales at Red Bull KTM Tech3.

Ai Ogura won’t participate in the Misano weekend because of a hand injury. His absence comes after he withdrew from Aragon.

Capirossi receives MotoGP Legend honor

Loris Capirossi was named a MotoGP Legend on Saturday. The Italian made 328 Grand Prix starts, collecting 29 victories across the 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP classes.

Misano’s next competitive action will start with Bezzecchi on pole, Marc Márquez beside him and championship leader Martín launching from fifth.
