Adelaide reveal fires MotoGP’s bold 2027 city gamble

MotoGP1September 2, 2026

South Australia has revealed Adelaide’s city-center MotoGP circuit layout, with the new Australian Grand Prix venue scheduled to debut in 2027.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas unveiled the layout for Adelaide’s future MotoGP circuit on August 29, turning a promise into a firm plan and giving the paddock its clearest view yet of the major calendar addition scheduled for 2027.

A city race takes shape

The proposed Australian Grand Prix venue will bring MotoGP into central Adelaide instead of using an established permanent circuit. Revealing the layout marks a concrete step toward the event’s planned 2027 debut.

Teams and riders can now prepare for a different kind of Australian challenge, with the city-center course presenting logistical and sporting demands that differ from those of a conventional venue.

Adelaide has deep racing history

Adelaide already has an established motorsport identity. The city hosted Formula 1’s Australian Grand Prix from 1985 through 1995, before street racing continued there with major touring car events.

MotoGP machinery presents a completely different test.

Safety provisions, runoff design and track preparation will receive close scrutiny before the first race. The August 29 unveiling sets out the intended configuration, while the next phase will focus on turning that plan into a circuit suitable for Grand Prix motorcycles.

Australia gains a new MotoGP focal point

The Adelaide project brings a second major location into the discussion around MotoGP in Australia, where Phillip Island has long staged one of the championship’s most recognizable stops.

South Australia’s appeal is clear. A city-center event places spectators close to the action and connects the race with Adelaide’s hotels, restaurants and transport network. MotoGP also gains a prominent urban showcase as the series builds its 2027 calendar.

The paddock has immediate business first

The championship fight is still tight as Adelaide prepares for its debut. Jorge Martín leads with 240 points, ahead of Marco Bezzecchi on 209 and Ai Ogura on 203. Marc Márquez holds fourth with 200, while Fabio Di Giannantonio sits one point behind.

Five riders are separated by 41 points at the top. Raúl Fernández ranks sixth on 184, Pedro Acosta has 163 and Francesco Bagnaia is eighth with 143.

Adelaide’s organizers now enter the detailed preparation phase ahead of 2027, including the work needed to turn the unveiled city route into a homologated MotoGP venue.
