Ericsson wins IndyCar’s inaugural Indy at Markham

Marcus Ericsson won the 2026 Indy at Markham for Andretti Global, finishing ahead of Romain Grosjean and Will Power in round 14 of the IndyCar Series season.

Ericsson claims victory at Markham

Ericsson secured the result on the Streets of Markham on Aug. 16, turning Andretti’s pace into a win at the new Ontario event. It was his first victory of 2026.

The available race record confirms the finishing order, although it contains no verified details about the decisive pass, pit sequence, caution periods or other incidents. Ericsson came through the race’s strategic phases in front and held Grosjean behind to the finish.

Grosjean delivers Coyne breakthrough

Grosjean finished second for Dale Coyne Racing, earning his first top-five result of the season and a major return for a team competing outside the leading championship group.

He separated the two Andretti cars on the podium.

Power seals Andretti double podium

Power finished third, putting two Andretti Global cars in the top three at the Canadian street race. It was his fifth top-five result across the completed 17-round season.

With Ericsson first and Power third, Andretti led the final Markham classification, while Grosjean denied the team a one-two finish.

What the result meant for the championship

The Markham victory strengthened Ericsson’s campaign as the championship moved into its closing stretch. He later finished the 17-race season eighth with 407 points, one win, one pole and four top-five results.

Power completed the season 11th with 351 points. Grosjean placed 20th on 247, making his Markham runner-up particularly valuable in a year that yielded four top-10 finishes.

Alex Palou stayed in control of the title race after round 14 and eventually won the championship with 607 points, 100 ahead of Christian Lundgaard. The Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D. C., followed Markham on Aug. 23, with Kyle Kirkwood winning on another street circuit.
