IndyCar has confirmed the first eight races of its 2027 schedule, including three straight March weekends and the Indianapolis 500 on May 30.
IndyCar has confirmed the first eight races of its 2027 schedule, giving teams an early view of a tightly packed opening run that starts with three consecutive weekends in March.
The first release also locks in the season's centerpiece. The 111th Indianapolis 500 is set for Sunday, May 30.
March delivers an immediate sprint
The 2027 championship begins with events on three successive March weekends, carrying over the early-season format used in 2026.
Teams will have little time to repair a weak opening package under that structure. A technical problem, operational mistake or poor setup direction can follow them straight into the next event, making productive preseason preparation even more valuable.
Eight dates set the early framework
IndyCar has released Phase One only, covering the opening eight races instead of the full calendar. Still, teams and fans now have a firm framework through the Indianapolis 500 on May 30.
The phased release also puts focus on the races that follow. Venue order and travel demands, along with the mix of street circuits, road courses and ovals, will define the second phase when IndyCar publishes it.
Indianapolis keeps its May showcase
The 111th Indianapolis 500 retains its traditional Sunday date at the end of May, with the 2027 race taking place one year after the 110th running on May 24, 2026.
The date matters in particular for teams organizing one-off entries, sponsor programs and expanded May operations at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Calendar news arrives during a title runaway
Alex Palou is firmly in control of the 2026 championship as the announcement arrives. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver has 510 points from 13 starts, with six victories and six poles.
Kyle Kirkwood is second with 400 points, while David Malukas has 392. Five races remain, starting with the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham on Aug. 16 at noon ET.
Palou leads by 110 points.
More 2027 dates are still coming
The first eight dates establish the opening months, although IndyCar has not yet released the remainder of its 2027 schedule. Next up is the inaugural Markham street race, followed by the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D. C. on Aug. 23 and a Milwaukee doubleheader on Aug. 29 and 30.
