Mick Schumacher will drive Meyer Shank Racing’s No. 66 Honda in the 2027 IndyCar season, joining returning teammate Marcus Armstrong.
Schumacher joins Meyer Shank Racing
Mick Schumacher will race for Meyer Shank Racing in the 2027 IndyCar season, taking control of the No. 66 Honda in the team’s confirmed two-car lineup.
MSR announced the move on September 9, 2026, days after the season finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Schumacher will line up alongside Marcus Armstrong, who remains with the team in the No. 60 Honda.
The deal gives one of IndyCar’s most closely watched drivers a confirmed landing spot before the offseason driver market picks up speed.
A full-time seat after rookie season
Schumacher finished his rookie IndyCar campaign with 213 points, putting him 23rd in the final standings. He raced the No. 47 entry at Laguna Seca before completing the switch to MSR for next season.
His 2027 contract secures another full campaign and moves him into an established Honda program. It also fills both Meyer Shank Racing seats, with Armstrong retained as Schumacher’s teammate.
MSR resets its driver pairing
The confirmed pairing of Armstrong and Schumacher gives MSR a reset after Felix Rosenqvist produced another strong weekend at Laguna Seca in the No. 60 Honda.
Rosenqvist went second fastest in both practice sessions, qualified third and took fourth in the 95-lap finale. Armstrong finished seventh in the No. 66 Honda.
Scott McLaughlin won that race by 1.3739 seconds over Kyle Kirkwood, while champion Alex Palou crossed the line eighth.
Palou sets the 2027 target
Schumacher and MSR head into 2027 with Palou firmly established as the championship benchmark. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver closed 2026 with 631 points, 86 clear of second-place Kirkwood on 545.
Christian Lundgaard placed third with 535 points, with Pato O’Ward collecting 522. Rosenqvist ended the year ninth on 412 points following his fourth-place result at Laguna Seca.
Palou had wrapped up the championship before the Milwaukee doubleheader. He then topped practice at Laguna Seca with a 1:09.8994 lap in the No. 10 Honda.
The next chapter starts in 2027
MSR has now finalized its driver plans before preparations for the new season get underway.
Schumacher’s next confirmed step will be his first offseason with the team, followed by his 2027 debut in the No. 66 Meyer Shank Racing Honda alongside Armstrong.
