Marquez had the pace to fight near the front on Sunday, August 9, before his own mistake ended the opportunity. He finished behind the leading group while Raul Fernandez controlled the 20-lap race for Trackhouse Aprilia.

Jorge Martin took second after winning Saturday's Sprint from pole. He had beaten Fernandez by only 0.021 seconds in qualifying, but Sunday belonged emphatically to the Trackhouse rider.
Aprilia machinery had already swept the Sprint podium through Martin, Ai Ogura and Marco Bezzecchi. Fernandez then extended the manufacturer's authority in the Grand Prix.
Gresini misses a major opportunity
Silverstone gave Marquez and Gresini an unusually valuable opportunity because the factory Ducati riders were vulnerable. Marc Marquez qualified sixth and finished seventh after struggling for confidence, while Francesco Bagnaia crashed on lap eight.
That made Alex Marquez's missed podium particularly painful.
