Alex Quinn lands multi-year Peugeot WEC Hypercar race deal

8October 9, 2026

Alex Quinn will become a full-time Peugeot TotalEnergies Hypercar driver in the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship after agreeing to a multi-year deal with the manufacturer.

The promotion moves Quinn from Peugeot’s test and development program into a race seat. Peugeot has not specified his car number or complete 2027 crew in its announcement.

Quinn completes a two-step progression

Quinn’s path to the race lineup began with his participation in the 2025 WEC Rookie Test. Peugeot then appointed him as a test and development driver for its Hypercar program in 2026.

His work in that role has now led to a full-time place for 2027. The official WEC announcement described the move as a “dream come true” for Quinn and confirmed that his contract covers multiple seasons.

The deal gives Peugeot one confirmed element of its driver plans before the championship’s 2027 campaign. The manufacturer has yet to announce the full composition of its race crews alongside Quinn.

Peugeot begins shaping its 2027 lineup

Quinn’s appointment is a confirmed change in a driver market that has already generated speculation around several Hypercar manufacturers. Unlike those unresolved possibilities, Peugeot has formally placed its current test driver in a race role.

The promotion also preserves continuity within the program. Quinn will enter his first full WEC Hypercar season after spending 2026 working with Peugeot TotalEnergies away from a permanent race seat. That gives him a season of direct experience with the manufacturer’s Hypercar operation before he joins its racing lineup.

Peugeot announced a multi-year agreement but did not disclose its exact length. The team also has not identified which of its Hypercar entries Quinn will drive or named his future teammates.

Hypercar field prepares for expansion

The 2027 season is set to bring further change to WEC’s top category. Ford and McLaren are preparing Hypercar programs for that campaign, adding new manufacturers to a class that already includes Peugeot.

Against that backdrop, Quinn’s confirmation gives Peugeot an early piece of certainty for its own program. It also converts a development appointment into a racing opportunity rather than bringing in a driver without recent experience inside the team.

Peugeot’s remaining lineup decisions will determine how much further the crews change for 2027. For now, the manufacturer has confirmed only Quinn’s elevation and the multi-year nature of his agreement.

Current season has two rounds remaining

Peugeot’s 2027 announcement comes before the final two events of the 2026 WEC season. The inaugural 6 Hours of Barcelona is scheduled for Oct. 18, followed by the Monza round on Nov. 8.

Those races will conclude the current championship before attention turns fully toward preparations for the expanded 2027 field. The official WEC calendar places the Barcelona event at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, while Monza returns as the season finale after three years away.

The championship has described the 2026 title contest as going down to the wire, although its announcement did not provide numerical standings or title permutations. That leaves the competitive outcome of the current season to be settled before Quinn begins his full-time Peugeot role.

Lynn returns to Cadillac for Barcelona

A separate confirmed lineup development will take effect before Quinn’s Peugeot promotion. Alex Lynn is set to return to Cadillac’s No. 12 entry for the final two races of 2026 after missing most of the season through injury.

Lynn recorded three pole positions for Cadillac during the 2025 WEC season. His return covers both Barcelona and Monza as the championship completes its European finish.

Peugeot, meanwhile, still has two 2026 rounds to complete before Quinn assumes his full-time racing role. Further details of its 2027 crews, including Quinn’s car assignment and teammates, remain to be announced.
