Marc Marquez storms to emotional Portimao victory

MotoGP0March 16, 2026

Eight months after his last win, Marc Marquez stood atop the podium again with a vintage ride at Portimao.

Marc Marquez reminded the MotoGP world why he remains one of the sport’s most compelling figures, taking a deeply emotional victory at Portimao after a race that balanced aggression with rare restraint.

Starting from fourth, Marquez picked off riders with clinical precision. His move on Francesco Bagnaia into Turn 1 on lap eight was trademark Marquez: late, decisive, and clean. From there he managed the gap, never allowing the Ducati rider a sniff of an opportunity.

The tears on the podium told the story. After a winter of doubt and whispers about his future, the Spaniard delivered a ride that silenced the sceptics. Behind him, Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta traded fastest laps in a thrilling battle for second.

The championship now heads to Jerez with momentum firmly in Marquez’s corner — and the rest of the field on notice.
